PiC文学名著以其超越时空的震撼，影响着人类几千年的文明史，为人类社会创造了无价的瑰宝。作为一种范本，文学名著对于电影来说有着特殊的意义。

早在1957年，美国电影研究家乔治·布鲁斯东就以充分的证据论述“由小说改编成的电影，总是最有希望获得金像奖，并且在经济上艺术上同样成功”。

在中外电影史上，由文学名著改编而来的电影占有很大的比重，这也为电影产业和电影艺术创造了功不可没的辉煌。文学名著耀眼的光辉和持久的文字魅力，从电影起源开始，聪明的电影人便注意到了这些文学名著的巨大艺术价值和其潜在的商业价值，吸引了无数的电影制片商对她的商业投机，同时也勾起了影视导演们把文字艺术转化为视觉艺术进行再创造的欲望，他们开始把一部又一部的文学名著改编为电影剧本，加以影像，并把它们展现在观众的眼前。

电影依靠文学名著的精髓进行视觉艺术的再创造，而名著则是给予文字的内涵给电影，电影用它独有的科技为持久不衰的名著以全新的方式呈现给观众和读者，给没有生命的纸和字以鲜活的力量。虽然电影可以把固化的文字变成动态的影像，可以使人没有距离感的观赏，但是文学名著其本身却在读者心目中形成了先入为主的印记，这也为影视的再创造制造了相当的难度，因此由名著改编的影视作品也常常成为褒贬不一的争议之作，电影与文学名著自然也就成了值得探讨的话题。很多被改编成电影的文学名著，经过镜头的洗礼，它们焕然一新，在原著原有的灵魂之上，赋予它流动的生命。
